Assam Government Considers CBI Investigation into Online Trading Scam
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Saturday that the state government may recommend a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the online trading scam, which has affected numerous investors across the state.
Highlighting the progress made in the ongoing investigation, Sarma revealed that 59 arrests have been made, 22 Look-Out Circulars (LOCs) issued, and 14 Special Investigation Teams (SITs) formed.
The scam, involving multiple online trading firms, allegedly evaded regulations set by SEBI and RBI, resulting in significant financial losses for many.
Sarma emphasized the collaboration between state agencies, including the Assam Police, Enforcement Directorate, and Income Tax Department, working together to tackle the scam.
When asked about delays in apprehending certain suspects, Sarma assured the public that law enforcement would ultimately prevail.
Assam’s DGP GP Singh provided updates on social media, noting that 28 cases have been registered across 14 districts, leading to 59 arrests and 22 LOCs issued for uncooperative individuals.
Singh also mentioned disciplinary actions taken against police personnel involved in the schemes, including the dismissal of Lance Naik Saroj Deka and suspension of Inspector Jitumoni Deka pending further investigations.
