Land Erosion Cuts Off Water Supply to Tawang Township

A severe disruption in water supply has hit Tawang township and surrounding areas, including Lemberdung, Changprong, and Nyukmadung, due to land erosion triggered by heavy rainfall. The early morning erosion damaged critical infrastructure near Bramadungchung Ani Gonpa, cutting off drinking water to the region.

According to Assistant Engineer Doge Kamduk from the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), the erosion occurred between 4 and 5 a.m., destroying vital water supply structures and affecting several areas, including Teli Field Hospital.

In response, a team led by I/c Deputy Commissioner Sang Khandu, District Disaster Management Officer Genden Tsomu, and other officials visited the site to assess the damage. Restoration efforts are underway, with 30 local volunteers assisting PHED workers in repair efforts.

To mitigate the disruption, water tankers from the Tawang Brigade have been deployed to ensure residents have access to water. PHED is working diligently to restore the water supply as quickly as possible.
