Tripura CM Urges Swift Completion of Flood Damage Assessment Report Amidst Ongoing Relief Operations

Agartala, Tripura: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has directed officials to expedite the compilation of a damage assessment report following the severe floods that struck the state from August 19 to 23. The report, which details the extent of the devastation, is to be submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs by week’s end.

The floods have resulted in 36 fatalities and affected around 1.4 million people, causing extensive damage to infrastructure, homes, and local economies. During a review meeting, Saha stressed the need for a prompt and thorough assessment to secure necessary aid from the central government.

Revenue Secretary Brijesh Pandey reported that immediate relief efforts include ex gratia payments and compensation for damaged properties, with 26 families already receiving support. Relief camps are currently housing 3,873 displaced individuals, who are provided with essential services.

Despite concerns from former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar about potential funding shortages, Pandey assured that financial constraints are not impeding recovery efforts. The state has allocated Rs 564 crore for infrastructure repair and flood relief. Sarkar has advised Saha to seek urgent central assistance and consider a delegation to meet with Union ministers if needed.
