Meghalaya Surgeon Faces Allegations of Medical Negligence in Cesarean Section Case

Shillong, Meghalaya — A surgeon at Jengjal Subdivisional Hospital in West Garo Hills is facing accusations of medical negligence following an alleged incident where a bandage was left inside a patient’s abdomen after a cesarean section. The case has drawn significant concern from local political groups, including the A’chik State People’s Front (ASPF).

The patient, Mensila N Marak from Lower Nengsa in North Garo Hills, underwent the procedure on January 29. She has since reported severe pain and discomfort, prompting fears that Dr. Suzie Paul Francis, the surgeon who performed the operation, may have been negligent.

On September 18, ASPF general secretary Bernita Marak submitted a memorandum to Meghalaya Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, urging an immediate and thorough investigation into the incident. The ASPF has called for accountability and stricter regulations to prevent such occurrences in the future, emphasizing the need to safeguard patients’ health and ensure high standards of medical practice.
