Tragic Collision Claims Two Lives in Guwahati Amid Diwali Festivities

Guwahati — Two youths lost their lives, and several others were injured in a severe collision in Guwahati’s Khanapara area on Thursday night. The accident, which occurred amid Diwali celebrations, involved two Scorpio vehicles that collided head-on near the Khanapara footbridge, leaving both vehicles severely damaged and the footbridge itself partially wrecked.

Local sources report that the accident occurred as a Scorpio, bearing the registration number AS 01 EG 0820, attempted a U-turn near the footbridge. An oncoming Scorpio, traveling from the Khanapara side, reportedly lost control and crashed directly into the turning vehicle. Eyewitnesses recounted that one of the vehicles then veered off course, hitting the footbridge and breaking through its railing before landing back onto the road.

The crash claimed the lives of Deepit Dey and Konamika Narjaree, who died on the spot. Another young woman, Neha Basumatary, along with the driver of the vehicle carrying the AS 01 EG 0820 plate, were rushed to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in critical condition.

The scene was grim, as parts of the wrecked vehicles and the deceased’s remains were scattered across the road, bearing testimony to the impact’s severity. Authorities are investigating the incident to determine the exact circumstances that led to this devastating accident.

This tragic incident has cast a shadow over Diwali celebrations in Guwahati, with the local community mourning the loss and extending their condolences to the bereaved families.
