Tragic Fire in Jorhat Claims One Life, Destroys Multiple Shops
Jorhat, Assam — A deadly fire broke out around midnight in a bustling commercial area near Bhogdoi Masjid, resulting in the tragic death of one individual and extensive property damage. The victim, Sushil Rai from Bagaha, Bihar, was sleeping at his workplace when the fire erupted, leaving him unable to escape. Rai, an employee at a business-cum-residential establishment owned by Vikram Kundaliya, was pronounced dead at the scene, a fact later confirmed by his son-in-law.
The fire reportedly started in a grocery store within Kundaliya’s establishment and quickly spread to neighboring shops. By the time emergency responders arrived, the flames had engulfed several buildings, requiring more than ten fire tenders to control the blaze. Firefighters battled the flames for several hours, finally bringing them under control around 4 a.m.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, with initial reports suggesting that firecrackers might have ignited the incident. Authorities are working to determine the extent of the damage, and an official assessment is expected soon.
