NIA Takes Over Investigation of Violence-Related Cases in Manipur

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has assumed control over three critical cases linked to the recent violence in Manipur, which has caused multiple fatalities and widespread unrest. These cases, initially handled by the local Manipur police, were transferred to the NIA following instructions from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), which expressed concern over the escalating violence and its impact on public order.

One of the cases involves a gun battle between the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Kuki militants in Jiribam, resulting in the deaths of at least 10 militants. Another case pertains to the kidnapping and murder of six individuals, whose bodies were found shortly after their abduction. The NIA has registered a separate case for this incident as well.

The transfer of these cases highlights the intensifying instability in Manipur, where violence has been escalating due to tensions between the Kuki-Zo-Hmar and Meitei communities. The MHA has directed all security forces to take immediate action to restore peace, warning of strict measures against those involved in violent activities.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also chaired a high-level meeting to assess the security situation, with plans for additional deployment of 2,000 Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel to help restore stability.
