Under the Sal Tree Theatre Festival Celebrates 15 Years Amidst Goalpara’s Natural Splendor
The serene Shalini Beel in Rampur, Agia, has transformed into a vibrant cultural hub as the Under the Sal Tree Theatre Festival, organized by Badungduppa Kalakendra, takes center stage in Assam’s Goalpara district. Running from December 15 to December 17, the festival has brought together amateur theatre groups and performers from across the country, including notable participants from Chennai, West Bengal, and Assam.
Celebrating its 15th year, the festival offers a unique theatre experience, blending artistic expression with the natural beauty of its surroundings. Unlike traditional stage settings, performances here unfold under the open sky and towering sal trees, creating an organic connection between art and nature.
The organizers emphasized the festival’s aim to foster a distinct style of theatre that draws inspiration from the environment while captivating audiences. This year’s edition has seen a growing number of spectators from Assam and beyond, reflecting the event’s increasing national appeal and reputation as a cultural milestone.
The Under the Sal Tree Theatre Festival continues to serve as a platform for creativity, storytelling, and artistic collaboration, firmly establishing itself as a beloved annual celebration in the heart of Goalpara.
