Burmese fish from Myanmar illegally sold in Assam’s Nagaon

Guwahati: Police in Assam have restless nights because of Burmese supari. However, none of the relevant authorities appear to be bothered by the illegitimate fish imports from Burma (Myanmar) to Nagaon.

The media is awash with stories about fish import syndicates that travel from Myanmar to Nagaon in Assam via Nagaland.

Three traders have been identified as Abdul Malek, Nazmul, Kalam and Ikramul.

As per reports, trio have been in charge of the Burmese fish trade in Nagaon, according to sources.

It is interesting that the Burmese fish is being delivered to Assam from Myanmar illegally via Nagaland.

Night buses from Kohima and Dimapur to Hojai and Nagaon in Assam convey Burmese fish.

Dobka and Reng Beng in Hojai are covertly supplied with fish from Burma at night. Fish is supplied and packed in a thermocol box with a sack covering it.

Malu, a wholesale fish seller from Nagaon’s Barbazar, has also been charged for bringing Burmese fish from Nagaon to various locations throughout the state under the pretence of being an indigenous fish.

Additionally, it has been claimed that some police departments work closely with the defendant to run the business smoothly by controlling this circle in return for payment.

Burmese fish are in high demand in Guwahati because they taste better and travel more quickly than other imported fish from Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.
