Investigation Underway After 17 Cows Die in Suspected Arson Attack in Karimganj, Assam

A devastating fire claimed the lives of 17 cows and caused severe injuries to two others in Indurala village of Baghan GP, Patharkandi, Karimganj, Assam, early on Friday (June 14). The blaze also resulted in an estimated Rs 10 lakh worth of property damage at the cattleman’s residence.

Ramadhar Kairi, the owner of the cows, has alleged that the fire was intentionally set as an act of revenge against him. He has called for a thorough investigation by the deputy commissioner into the incident. Kairi’s sons, Sujit and Suraj, managed to rescue the surviving cows from the burning shed.

Upon receiving the distress call, local police promptly arrived at the scene. Initial suspicions of an electrical malfunction were replaced by concerns of foul play after the detection of a strong smell of petrol at the site.

This tragic incident is reminiscent of a similar event in 2015 when 30 cows perished in a fire at Kairi’s sister’s residence nearby. Authorities are now conducting a comprehensive investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire and determine if it was indeed an act of arson.
